Focus Point – Reagan in his own hand

Hi, I'm Pete du Pont with the NCPA.

I had a few days in the sun last week and a chance to catch up on some of my reading. Today, Reagan in his own hand; Tomorrow Two O'clock Eastern War Time.

Between Jan 1975 and October of '79 when he stopped to run for president, RR recorded 1000 radio commentaries, many of which he wrote himself while traveling about the country. They are collected in Reagan in his own hand, a wonderful book on many counts.

First, it is the real Ronald Reagan, full of anecdotes and humor and passionate about liberty, smaller government, lower taxes and the catastrophe of communism.

Second, Reagan believed in what he said; what he wrote on the '70s became his policies in the '80s. Imagine that, a man doing as president what he said he would doas he was getting ready to run.

Finally, speaking as one who does radio commentaries, the man was amazing. I do 90 second commentaries and have help preparing them; Reagan did 5-minute commentaries and wrote them himself. Now that is talent.

Well those are my ideas, and at the NCPA we know ideas can change the world. I'm pete du pont; Tomorrow Two O'clock Eastern War Time.
