Lt. Col. Allen West will be the keynote speaker at the Smith County Republican Club’s annual Presidents Day Dinner, slated for 7 p.m. on Saturday at Hollytree Country Club.

West, a former Florida congressman who now heads the National Center for Policy Analysis, rose to prominence as part of the Tea Party movement in 2010. He served in Congress from 2011 to 2013.

“We are excited to hear from Lt. Col. West,” said Skip Ogle, vice president of the SCRC. “His conservative focus has been a rally point for Republicans nationwide.”

West’s first book, “Guardian of the Republic,” was published in 2014.

“Lt. Col. West relates to East Texans, bringing a realistic but fresh perspective, speaking candidly about the challenges ahead not just for the Republican Party but our great nation as well,” Ogle said.

Seats for the dinner are $50 each. Sponsorships start at $125. Sponsors of the event will be able to attend a private reception for West from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.

From 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., the Smith County Republican Women’s Club will hold a silent auction.
