I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. Guess who's handing out your tax money to lobbying groups? The Environmental Protection Agency.
The EPA was created to reduce pollution. But apparently, it prefers social engineering, giving big grants to groups dedicated to doing away with cars, making driving more difficult, and bottling drivers up in small, more crowded spaces.
According to the Thoreau Institute's Randall O'Toole, EPA has given $8 million to anti-highway groups dedicated to stopping highway improvements.
It's given $6 million to organizations like the Environmental Defense Fund and others to support anti-driving campaigns. More than $2 million has gone to anti-sprawl groups full of the latest urban planning notions. The NCPA has documented over and over how supposedly containing sprawl really means slower driving, more idling and more pollution.
This is being done with your money. So, the next time you're stuck in an EPA-engineered traffic jam, think about how the Environmental Protection Agency spent it.
