Focus Point – Hypocrite Rosie

I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. A postscript to the Million Mom March, the well-meaning women whose hearts are in the right place even if the evidence against their cause is overwhelming.

One of their most shrill celebrity front women was talk show host Rosie O'Donnell. O'Donnell is one of those Hollywood liberals who help define the stereotype: guns are bad, people who have guns are bad, the second amendment is a dangerous anachronism. O'Donnell is one of those people who basically wants a world without guns for law-abiding people.

Except, it turns out, for herself.

It seems her bodyguard needs to carry a concealed handgun to do his job properly, which is primarily protecting O'Donnell's four-year-old son. So, he applied to the Greenwich, Connecticut police department for a permit. O'Donnell, like most liberals, believes that rules which are fine for you can be waived for her if inconvenient. No way you should be allowed to protect yourself or your family with a legally-purchased and registered weapon. But where Rosie's concerned, the second amendment's her personal preserve. Well, that's different.

Those are my ideas, and at the NCPA we know ideas can change the world. I'm Pete du Pont. Next time, a heartfelt recommendation.
