Focus Point – Tax Dollars Not at Work

I'm Pete du Pont with the National Center for Policy Analysis. Just how I wanted to start the New Year: reading that government was just as wasteful as I said it was last year.

The House Budget Committee has found government incompetence galore. Let us count the ways your tax dollars are lost to waste, mismanagement and fraud.

A billion dollars in the Supplemental Security Income Program.

$12.6 billion in Medicare.

$18 billion at Housing and Urban Development, and we get lousy public housing to boot.
And we're just getting started. Tens of billions are lost yearly to incompetence and theft. Budget committee chairman John Kasich has a website for people to report government waste and abuse in their local communities. It's www.house.gov/budget.

Last year Kasich tried to get a one percent across the board budget cut, but the administration boo-hooed that it would cut into critical services. What it would cut into is stupity and stealing. Kasich's planning on new hearings next month, and I'd like a front row seat.

Those are my ideas, and at the NCPA we know ideas can change the world. I'm Pete du Pont, and I'll see you next time.
