January 27, 1999 — The Right Honorable David Davis, a leading member of the British Parliament, and the Honorable Armando Ribas, an expert on South American currency issues, will address attendees at a two-day conference sponsored by the National Center for Policy Analysis and the Virginia-based Atlas Economic Research Foundation.
The conference is scheduled for Friday and Saturday, February 5 and 6, at the Wyndham Anatole Hotel in Dallas.
Davis will address issues related to the Euro, Europe's new "dollar." As chairman of the Committee of Public Accounts, the House of Commons' most senior and powerful committee, Davis has oversight authority over all Britain's spending and taxing. In the last Conservative government, he was the Minister of State at the Foreign Office.
Ribas is a former member of Argentina's congress and has been an adviser to several Argentine ministries. Currently he is a consultant to the International Monetary Fund on issues related to currency stabilization, particularly in Brazil, Argentina and Mexico.
The two-day conference will bring together leaders of the free-market movement from around the world to discuss public policies ranging from entitlement reform to education. It is part of a series of events marking the National Center for Policy Analysis' 15th Anniversary. A gala dinner on February 6 will feature Nobel Laureate Milton Friedman, recently described by Fortune magazine as "The Economist of the Century." In addition, a taping of the PBS program DebatesDebates will include the conference experts as panelists.
